For many of us a pen, a piece of paper and a boring meeting, or dry lecture are a recipe for doodles (those mindless little drawing that fill the margins of our notes). Though it may seem like these little scribbles are a sign of inattention it turns out they may be doing us a favor. By keeping the overactive part of our brain that gets bored distracted, they actually help us retain more information.
